The restored pioneer home of Jimmy and Rachel Silliven, key figures in the Underground Railroad, can be found along IN-1 outside of Balbec. The home was featured in Uncle Tom’s Cabin as one of Eliza Harris’ stops on her way to Canada. Turn at the historical marker (which faces the road) to see the quaint cabin, which served as a safezone of countless travelers on the Underground Railroad.
